M21 OICW
Initially expected to be fielded in 2005, events forced rapid aquisition of the weapon. 3000 units were purchased by 2002 with a further 4500 units every year there after. Used to equip the 10th Inf. (Mountain) in Alaska and 40th Infantry Division in California initally. The weapons defilade ability can be credited with causing havoc in Soviet and Mexican formations on numerous occasions. Due to proximity to ammunition sources 194th Armored Bde and 47th Infantry Div. were eventually equipped. After conversion to CIVGOV control the 108th Infantry were issued several weapons from an unknown source.
Ammunition plant in Illinoise was lost to riots in 2002 leaving only limited production coming from lesser plants in Washington state, Pennsylvania and Florida (which has been isolated more than once by bandits and gangs).
